Key Accountabilities
  • Maintain the company’s database systems including performance tuning, monitoring critical events, back-up/restore, archiving and documentation.
  • Manage production, QA and development database environments.
  • Create and manage multiple databases running on different DBMS including Oracle, MS SQL server, MySql, NoSql DB.
  • Monitor database systems and troubleshoot problems that may arise.
  • Maintain data integrity and security by properly managing roles and permissions of database users.
  • Use advanced tools for database tuning, generate traces, review execution plans, identify performance issues, deadlocks/contention and resolve them.
  • Ensure regular data protection, data back-ups, data restoration and data replication are carried out on regular basis.
  • Support software developers with database operations including development of complex and optimized SQL statements/Scripts, tuning of DML and the creation of stored procedures, functions and other database objects.
  • Learn relevant business processes, understand the data flow, criticality, dependencies then document.
  • Periodically review, implement and enforce policies related to database management.
  • Develop database management standards and guidelines according to best industry practices.
  • Review procedures in database management system manuals for making changes to database to enhance integrity of data.
  • Identify required modifications to existing databases and database management systems and direct programmers and analysts to make changes to ensure the database is accurate
  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database related tasks
  • Schedule the installation, patching and testing of new DBMS versions and perform database upgrades to the latest product versions.
  • Produce periodic reports to inform on DBMS performance levels.
  • Specify users and user access levels for each segment of database according to set policy to protect information against unauthorized access.
Experience
  • A minimum of five (3-4) years’ experience in database administration at an organization of similar size or equivalent.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, computer engineering, information systems or any other relevant degree

  • Technical database administration skills in Oracle, MySql, MSSQL and NoSQL DBs
